Unique Funeral Services
We at Legacy feel that each individual life should receive a dignified unique service when their life is over. Everyone is unique and we will help you discover those unique qualities about your loved one and turn them into a memorable service. Whether the service is held in one of the beautiful funeral homes in Delaware, or a restaurant following a cremation we want you to be able to celebrate the life that was lived, not only mourn their death.
The differences between cremation, funerals, memorials and funeral homes
If you do not have any advanced directive that tells you how your loved one wanted to be laid to rest you will have to make the choice between cremation or funeral and burial in a cemetery.
It helps you to make selections if you know what choices there are for funeral services or cremation, and the price differences between funeral homes and crematoriums before you begin.
Cremation is the process performed when the body of the departed is placed in a container, and inserted into a furnace for high temperature burning that will reduce the deceased to ashes.
A Delaware cremation can take place;

  • Directly after the deceased is released by the medical examiner
  • After funeral services are complete
  • After being refrigerated for a period of time if transportation is needed, or to wait for family and friends to arrive for a memorial

Crematoriums are designed so that only one body can be cremated at a time, so there is no way to mix someone's ashes.

Funeral services involve embalming the departed, dressing them, and placing them in a casket that you need to purchase, for viewing and visitation at funeral homes. A cremation can still take place instead of a burial in which case you may want to rent a casket for the viewing to keep the price lower.

If cremation is not chosen for after the funeral services, the departed will leave the funeral homes visitation room and be placed in a hearse for transportation to either, a mass first, or to the cemetery for a burial ceremony or placement in a mausoleum.
Cremations are traditionally less expensive than funeral homes services because there is much less involved.
A memorial service is normally held after the cremation, if no funeral services were performed. The service can take place in a funeral homes visitation room, a hall, restaurant, outside, or even in your home.
Now that you know what the differences are between cremation, funeral homes services, and funerals themselves, it may be a little easier to make a choice for the final arrangements of your loved one.
