Burial benefits are available for veterans, including burial in a national cemetery with veteran perpetual care. In addition, the spouse and dependents’ names, as well as date of birth and death of the veteran can be inscribed on the veteran’s headstone at no cost to the family.

Social Security Benefits
A one time payment is available to the surviving spouse if he or she were living with the beneficiary at the time of death, or in the case that he or she had been living apart, was eligible for Social Security benefits on the beneficiary’s earnings record for the month of death.
